Energy Efficiency in Building, Transport and Equipment Sector

We Continue to Push Boundaries toward
Creating an Energy-Efficient Society

We conduct thorough assessments of buildings, transportation, and equipment, all major contributors to
energy consumption, throughout their entire lifecycle, from design to usage, toward reducing energy consumption.

Building energy efficiency

  • We currently enforce energy-saving design standards, mandating that new buildings with a total floor area of 500m² or more achieve an energyperformance index score of 65 or higher. We conduct a thorough review of the energy conservation plan submitted as part of the building permitapplication, setting the groundwork for the gradual expansion of our comprehensive energy consumption regulation system.
  • We have implemented a zero-energy building certification system for all public buildings with a total floor area of 500m² or more.
  • Incentives are provided to certified zero-energy buildings, such as reduced acquisition taxes and relaxed floor area ratio standards. The extent ofthese incentives depends on the energy self- sufficiency rating of the buildings, taking into account their energy-saving systems and renewableenergy facilities.
  • All newly-constructed or expanded public buildings with a total floor area of 10,000m² or more must incorporate a building energy managementsystem to promote efficient energy usage.
    • BEMS : Building Energy Management System

Energy Efficiency in Buildings, Transportation, and Appliances

  1. 1Certified zero-energy building (2nd Pangyo Techno Valley Business Support Hub, public office building category)
  2. 2Certified zero-energy building (Sejong Lauren House, housing category)
  3. 3Building energy management system (BEMS)

Energy efficiency in transportation and Appliances

  • We have introduced an energy efficiency labeling system to make it easier for consumers to choose high-efficiency automobiles and tires.Furthermore, we're currently working on establishing technology verification and charging infrastructure to promote the wider adoption ofeco-friendly vehicles.
    1. 1Automobile efficiency label
    2. 2EV efficiency label
    3. 3Tire efficiency label
  • EV energy efficiency labeling system (effective as of September 1, 2023)
  • High-efficiency LED
    1. 1High-efficiency LED streetlights
    2. 2High-efficiency LED lamps
  • We currently operate three energy efficiency management programs aimed at enhancing the efficiency of equipment and promoting the adoptionof high-efficiency products.
    • Three energy efficiency management programs
      • Energy efficiency labeling & standard program (1992-)
        • Home appliancesㆍarchitectural buildingsㆍindustrial equipment (34 items)
        • Products are labeled from first to fifth grades based on their energy consumption, and those that do notmeet the government's minimum efficiency standards are prohibited from being produced and sold.
      • High-efficiency appliance certification program (1996-)
        • Industrial and architectural building equipment (23 items)
        • A voluntary certification system created to open up a market for energy- efficient products and encourage their widespread adoption.
      • Standby power reduction program (1999-)
        • Home appliances and office equipment (20 items)
        • Products that meet standby power standards receive a label of excellence, while those that don't are requiredto display a warning label.
